So how does Ron Paul get delegates in Ohio? The first possibility is by being the first place winner in an entire congressional district. The winner of a district will be allocated 3 district delegates. In the Cleveland area, the grassroots groups are currently focused on a strategy to try to win congressional district 11 in Cuyahoga County. The reason this is feasible is that first, there are few Republicans in this district so it is easier to control. The second reason is, because Ohio is an open primary state, Democrats can cross over to vote for Ron Paul. Since there is no hotly contested Democrat primary in CD11, it will be easier to convince Democrats that they have more of a voice by voting in the Republican primary for Paul. Groups in the Cleveland area are currently going door to door and making phone calls to CD11 voters, but if you are in the area they need your help. Contact Rick Duffin to help (rickhdee@gmail.com).

The second way Paul can get “at large” delegates is by getting at least 20% of the overall vote in the state of Ohio. If a single candidate gets more than 50% of the vote he will get all the delegates, however this seems unlikely because polling shows Ohio to be very split and not solidly uniting behind one candidate. But for Paul to get any at large delegates he MUST get over the 20% mark to get any delegates.

It is definitely doable for Ron to get more than 20% in Ohio, but it is going to require the full energy and organization of the Ron Paul grassroots army in the entire state of Ohio. Here is a hypothetical path to 20%.

Ron Paul is automatically getting around double the results he got in 2008. So let’s assume he has around 10% support right now, which is consistent with Ohio polling.

Ron can campaign some in Ohio, get press, and bump this up to 15%.

It is up to us to get the remaining 5% to pull him over the 20% mark. How do we do this?

Being visible, putting out signs, and distributing literature is important. But we know from the past that it is not enough to significantly influence the vote. Voting is a numbers game, and to get votes you need to find your supporters, try to push people on the fence to be a supporter, and then get out the vote on election day. The fastest way to personally reach large numbers of people is of course through phone calling. The grassroots in Ohio has set up a phone calling system with the phone numbers of 200,000 independent voters in the Cincinnati and Columbus area. The script is meant to find existing Paul supporters, but also asks a fiscal and social policy question. Based on their responses to the two questions we can move on to the next voter or try to convince the voter to vote for Paul. The data gathered is then used on election day to get out the vote.

Calling this number of voters in Ohio can have a big impact on election day, but lots of volunteers are needed to make enough calls to have an impact. The instructions for phone banking are here. Currently Cincinnati (contact Tara, dragonora2@aol.com) and Columbus have a physical phone calling location open. Contacting voters could be the difference between 18% and 20%. Between getting delegates and not getting delegates.

P.S. The delegates are already chosen for Ohio, we just need to WIN delegates at this point. No one new can become a delegate at this point.

Letter for January 29, 2012

Time for Ron Paul 2012

Consider the best candidate when you vote in the March primary. The media tells us who we should vote for and at the same time tears them down mercilessly. Last week it was reported in yet another poll in Michigan that neither Gingrich nor Romney could beat Obama. Recent polls have shown that not only does Dr. Paul carry more independents but also polls the closest to Obama in a general election. Paul has a voting record of 100% as far as voting constitutionally on legislation while our Ohio congressmen check in between 11% and 80% with a few in South Carolina who are also at 100%. While 80% may sound good to some people a friend pointed out to me that would you want your spouse to be faithful only 80% of the time.

Ron Paul brings wisdom to the table precisely because of his 76 years. He appeals to many groups of people including the young, independents, Democrats and Republicans. Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate who understands the difference between a strong national defense and empire building which results in inevitable blowback. Why do we need to maintain over 900 military installations in 150 countries? Our military understands this and that is why Ron Paul receives more active duty military campaign contributions than all the other Republican candidates combined. He is the only candidate who served in the military. No wonder he appeals to the young and our military. If you support our military men and women please don’t just put a yellow ribbon on your SUV or throw a ticker tape parade but listen to them. End the wars and vote Ron Paul!

People are tired of the establishment candidates who say one thing to get your vote then shove their agenda down our throats. If every Republican in the country voted they would represent only 35% of the voting population so NOW is the time for them to embrace a candidate like Ron Paul if they want to beat Obama. Hopefully the media and the Republicans will give him a chance.

Voting begins tomorrow morning in South Carolina at 7:00 a.m.

And the latest polls show I have a real shot at a very strong finish.

But I need your help during this critical time.

Can I count on you to make calls into South Carolina today?

The truth is, elections are a numbers game.

You see, if I’m going to have a strong showing in South Carolina, it’s absolutely vital we contact as many voters as possible.

And using our state-of-the-art Phone From Home Program, contacting voters has never been so easy.

All you have to do is call likely Republican voters in South Carolina to find out who they’re supporting, and what issue they care most about.

Best of all, you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your own home to help!

But South Carolina is going to come down to these last few hours.

So please, help my campaign contact as many voters as possible today using our Phone From Home Program.

Together, you and I can Restore America NOW!

For Liberty,

Ron Paul

P.S. Elections are a numbers game.

So if I’m going to have a strong showing in South Carolina, we must make sure we contact as many voters as possible before the polls open tomorrow.

That’s why I’m counting on you to use our Phone From Home Program to help contact likely Republican voters in South Carolina

At the link below you can download a PDF voter registration form. To register to vote, fill out the form and mail to you county board of elections. Full details and registration forms here.

A lot of Ron Paul support is coming from new and young voters, so registering these people to vote should be a big help Dr. Paul in Ohio. There are some key points to tell people.

You must register to vote by Feb 6 to vote in the primary. DO NOT delay to register now if you are not already a registered voter!

You do not need to be registered with any particular party to vote for Ron Paul. When you go to vote in the primary March 6, you just need to ask for a Republican ballot. Anyone regardless of their party affiliation can do this as long as they are registered to vote.

College students can register to vote in the precinct in which their college residence is located. There is no need to go back home to vote, but if you want to vote based on your college residence you need to register to vote with that address.

There is no point in voting in the Democrat primary. Obama is running unopposed. If you want change, vote in the Republican party for Ron Pau and you can actually have an impact!

Calling All Campus Groups!

All Ron Paul student groups, you can have a big impact by doing registration drives on campus for Ron Paul. You can have people fill out the registration cards and even mail them in for them. Make sure they understand where, when, and how to vote. A handout explaining the how to vote for Ron Paul points above would be very helpful. If you can have them sign up for your group mailing list. You can be even more effective by reminding all the people who you register to vote to get out and vote on election day!

A few weeks ago an urgent call went out to collect signatures to get delegates for Ron Paul. The decision to do this was a precaution because with the redistricting go on in Ohio, the true filing deadlines were not necessarily known. However this week the chaos was finally settled and the Ohio legislature passed a bill finalizing Ohio’s new districts and primary date. The presidential primary will be held March 6, and the filing deadline for is Dec 30th for candidates. All the previous paperwork filed is null and void with the new deadline. The good news is however no signatures are going to be required for the new deadline.

With this change there is an opportunity for additional people to become Ron Paul delegates. Delegates are responsible for attending the GOP National Convention in Florida in August if Ron Paul wins delegates in Ohio. There they can cast their vote for Ron Paul to be the GOP’s presidential candidate.

There is a requirement to have a mixture of male and female delegates. At this point female delegates are needed. If you are interested please send your name and phone number to me. I will help collect the information to forward to the campaign. jb4ronpaul@gmail.com.
